Sun City, along with Sun City West, is known as one of top-rated
retirement communities in the nation. Sun City West is a mirror
image of Sun City. When Sun City was built out in the early
1970's, Del Web headed four miles west and created Sun City
West. The Agua Fria River separates the two towns.
The largest development in Del Webb's senior community concept
is Sun City Grand. Sun City Grand covers 3,700 acres between
Bell Road and Grand Avenue.
All of these communities are famous for their active, resort
retirement lifestyle. None are incorporated. There are deed
restrictions, which requires at least one resident per household
to be 55 or older. The town relies on Maricopa County for
services, such as law enforcement and street repairs. However,
volunteerism is a big part of the community. There is a Sheriff
Posse of Sun City that helps patrol the area and Sun City
Pride contributes to the beautification of the town.
All three communities are surrounded by thousand of acres
of golf courses. There are multiple clubhouses, swimming pools
and shopping areas abound There are several nearby attractions
that will appeal to those who enjoy the arts. The Sundome
Center for the Performing Arts in Sun City West attracts big
name acts to its stage. The center is the largest single level
auditorium in the United States and seats 7,100. The Sun Cities
Museum of Art has ever-changing exhibits and art classes available
for interested in trying their hand at a new medium.
