Rex Allen

Rex Allen was born in Willcox, Arizona in 1920. He was the last of the "Singing Cowboys." He made over a hundred "B" Westerns up until about 1954. He also had a successful career as a country artist and narrated hundreds of Walt Disney films. Rex Allen passed away in Tucson in 1999.

Steve Allen

Steve Allen spent a year here as a radio disc jockey before his career as a comedian took off. He also was "a composer, singer, producer, conductor, a songwriter of more than 4,000 songs, and the author of over 38 books." This link covers his career well until the mid-90's. Mr. Allen passed away in 2000.

Erma Bombeck
Erma Bombeck, the beloved writer and humorist, died in 1996. She and her husband made their home in Paradise Valley, Arizona.

Mark Calcavecchia
Mark is a professional golfer on the PGA Tour and was the winner of the 2003 Phoenix Open. He has a home in Ahwatukee.

Waylon Jennings
In October 2003 Waylon was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He is considered to have been an industry legend. He died at his home in Chandler, Arizona in February 2002.

Randy Johnson
Pitcher Randy Johnson won his third Cy Young Award as the popular strike-out king for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Bill Keane
Creator of The Family Circus comic strip, Bill Keane and his family lived in the Phoenix area. The philosophy of his widely distributed cartoon is: "A home filled with love and laughter is the happiest place in the world."

Peter Kostis
A television commentator and analyst for golf broadcasts, Peter lives in Paradise Valley.

Tom and his family live in Scottsdale. He became a pro golfer in 1982 and has 5 tour victories so far. He was PGA Tour Player of the Year in 1996.

Nils Lofgren
Recording start and guitar player. Nils Lofgren began his career with Neil Young's band, and later joined Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. He is still performing and touring, and lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.

John McCain
U.S. Senator from Arizona. Republican. Known for work on pork barrel spending, passing line item veto, proponent of lower taxes, deregulation and free trade.

Gary McCord
Gary McCord began his professional golf career in 1971 and makes his home in Scottsdale. He has had two Senior PGA victories since joining that tour in 1998.

Stevie Nicks
A singer with Fleetwood Mac and then achieving fame as a single performer, Stevie Nicks is a Phoenix resident.

Phil Mickelson
A.S.U. grad and Scottsdale resident Phil Mickelson is a professional golfer who, other than 1999 (the year his daughter was born) has captured at least one victory on the PGA TOUR in every full season as a professional.

Sam Moore
Sam Moore, of the duo Sam and Dave, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Rall of Fame in 1992. You might know them best for the song "I'm a Soul Man" that was later also performed by the Blues Brothers. Sam lives in the Phoenix area.

Buck Owens
Buck and his family migrated west from Texas during the depression and ended up in Mesa, Arizona. In 1967 he purchased country music radio station KNIX that he would own until 1999. Buck Owens is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and a member of the Arizona Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Grace Park
A professional golfer on the LPGA Tour. Two career titles so far.

Marty Robbins
Born in Glendale, AZ, Marty Robbins worked on a ranch outside Phoenix as a teenager. He died in 1982, the same year he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Linda Ronstadt
This famous singer is the pride of Tucson, Arizona where the Ronstadt family has a long history. This site is not her official one, but it certainly covers the topic.

Curt Schilling
Curt Schilling, now a popular pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, gained his baseball experience as a Phillie. He is a graduate of Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix.
